The English Department is actively involved in diverse celebrations that remark important values taught at the school.
At the beginning of the year, in February, we get prepared to share self-awareness and fraternity with others when we hold Saint Valentine´s. In March we talked about the cultural and language contributions given by Saint Patrick’s Day, this year we had a week directed to Irish culture. Later in April, we commemorated the rebirth of seasons when Easter takes place, the search for the chocolate eggs is always an exciting journey.
Then, in August we carry out The English Festival, which is an anticipated event in the Colegio Bilingue Lerner and Klein since it marks the cultural and academic English process of the students through the year. Parents are invited to be awed by the performances and the festivity that the activity contributes to the educational life of the school. The main objective of the event is to create an ambiance in which students get to interact with the school’s community using the communicative resources they learn in the different bilingual subjects (L.A, Anglo-Saxon Culture, Grammar, and Exam preparation).
Every year, the event revolves around a particular topic or concept in which the whole school is immersed, this allows students to provide a complete experience to those who watch their interactions. It is important to highlight that every student has an equal role in the development of the plays or performances, this represents all the effort every student puts into preparing every detail for the activity. Students anticipate many of these activities by getting prepared with materials and information that teachers provide before developing the celebrations. Students are most interested in activities because they assume an active role not only in participating but also in creating or even guiding the exercises implemented in the classrooms. On the other hand, teachers are in charge of creating, planning, and guiding the activities to be meaningful and that every student participates in them.
The purpose of these is to have a profound impact on students´ language development and for them to live on the values and experiences that the celebrations bring along. Everyone in the community is invited to participate and to let themselves be engaged by the themes and spirit of the celebrations, every member of the community has a different and key role to play.
